H. S. "Hub" McKenna was the fourteenth mayor of Poteau. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1876. Because of his influence, the federal court was moved from Cameron to Poteau. McKenna was employed by the Bell Lumber Company for many years. In 1902, he married Margie Bell. During his term, four wards were established in the town. A resolution read that the mayor and the councilmen would serve without ay, but would be xempt from street work. (Male citizens worked the streets four days per year and brought their own tools)
